It's a beautiful day to celebrate the life of a breathtakingly beautiful woman. A day to rejoice in the rest she has found in the arms of her Savior.
Karen changed my life in so many ways. For 14 years I saw nothing but grace, forgiveness and unconditional love. Even in the early years, when I had less-than-ideal characteristics to be the wife of her youngest son 😉...she never once left me questioning the place she held for me in her family.
She was an impeccable mother-in-law and a beyond-words kind of Grandma.
After Tessa was born, for over six years...she worried and celebrated from a distance... through every sickness, every seizure, every victory...milestone...and procedure. And for six years, she traveled those miles of country roads between Kansas and Oklahoma to be of help in our greatest times of need.
She celebrated when we celebrated and she wept when we wept. She showed up with a tender heart, strength to lean on, a helpful hand in our weariness, and always a bright spot of encouragement that kept us moving ahead. We will most definitely grieve this time of separation and the less than 6 healthy months we had sharing an Oklahoma zip code.
But man did God finish an amazing good work in Grandma, and we look forward to the day He calls us home to join her!! For now though, we will cling to every ounce of strength and love that she gave us while she was here....and we'll find it in ourselves to continue on.... to persevere ❤
Karen Sue Bynum passed away Dec. 23, 2017 at her home in El Reno. She was born Oct. 12, 1954 in Galveston, TX to Thomas and Velera (Ainsworth) Jacobson. Karen humbly served as a pastor’s wife for 35 years at Country View Baptist Church in Ulysses, KS. She received her bachelor’s degree from Panhandle State University in education. Karen was a teacher at Kepley Middle School in Ulysses, Kansas for many years. She enjoyed traveling and being together with other pastors and pastor’s wives. Karen especially enjoyed and loved her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her husband, Sam Bynum of the home; sons, David Bynum and wife Stephanie of El Reno, Tom Bynum and wife Lacy of Alva, OK, Tim Bynum and wife Christy of Lubbock, TX, and Darin Bynum and wife Whitney of Yukon; grandchildren, Abby, Essie, Marla, Sarah, Emmy, Libby, Harley, Ellis, Parker, Tessa, and Weston; great granddaughter, Austin; sister, Jeanie Jacobson of Penrose, CO; brother, Roy Jacobson of Penrose, CO; and other relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to Highland Baptist Church in her name. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017 at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, El Reno with burial to follow at the El Reno Cemetery.
